Advice on threaded parts
I'm printing threaded parts - both male and female - but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel. The diameters are large: a minimum of 25mm, up to about 100mm. To achieve the threads in my CAD software (Cubify Invent), I'm just sticking a triangle point into the surface and doing a helix revolve. Since t...

Re: Printer freezes mid-print
We used to have problems with pauses in the scrapbook cutters when the file size was too large for the cutter software to handle....it would have to "stop and think about it" for a while. Happened a lot with really detailed cuts with thousands of lines of code. It's been happening on small, very si...

Printer freezes mid-print
My M2 has been freezing mid-print every once in a while. Sometimes if I leave it alone while frozen, it will resume by itself after a few minutes. I usually just restart the print, though, because the print is always imperfect by the time it resumes. I was reading a recent thread in which the OP had...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
Sorry for the delay. Real life keeps interfering with my hobbies. >:[ 1. You were still using multiple outlines. That's what's causing those "backing up" divots to form. 2. Your infill is too low. Upped that to about 25% or so, because deep divots will form over low infill, especially on curved surf...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
You would have to post the profile in order to know. Sounds like your coast is too much. I would honestly like to see the settings and give it a try. My coast might be too much, but I don't think that's the cause of the divots. They seem to happen even without the coast. Reducing the coast value se...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
Alright, here's my current (final?) situation: I've found a combination of settings (including print & travel acceleration, coast, extrusion multiplier, print speed, and x/y movement speed) that eliminates blobs at the layer change points. But I'm still left with these tiny divots that seem to resul...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
Well, yes, you can see them on the back in the same place that yours show up. There is always going to be a fine mark at the spot where the layer starts - you can't get around that. Very fine marks appear on the back of the owl, but you can see from the picture that i posted, unless you get a magni...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
Did you try the other settings i posted earlier? We've had a couple of successes with those so far. Yeah, I tried those. Actually, one of my original assumptions is incorrect. With every little setting change the software seems to change the optimum layer change point, thereby changing the location...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
I lost a few days to a Windows 10 upgrade, but I'm printing again today. Unfortunately, the "optimize start points for fastest print speed" option has been selected on all of my prints. I'm pretty sure it's the default in S3D because I don't remember changing it on either installation. Sorry to thro...

Re: Z-scars? Or something else?
Thanks for the responses! And sorry for the delay. I've been doing experiments whenever I can get some free time. I have a forest's worth of owls at this point. I've played around with coast settings, temperature, speed, outer layer number, outline overlap, etc. and... honestly, in a blind test I do...
