OT materials question

I've been using some tape that's made for outdoor vents. It's really sticky and in the process of cutting it I gummed up a good pair of scissors. Now I can't get the gunk off. Any ideas what's the simplest solvent likely to remove it? I tried alcohol and that didn't do anything.

Re: Paste Extruder

Wow Toby, that looks amazing! Can't wait to see how that will turn out. Thanks, Megan. I'm looking forward to it myself! Hopefully I'll get it working soon for casting in plaster and then I'm really ready to start experimenting with ceramics. Looking forward to hearing more about your projects. I'v...

Re: Build Time

I haven't noticed acceleration changes having much effect on actual build time. The one print I had where S3D's estimate was way off seemed to be caused by a z-lift not be accounted for.

Re: Trefoil Knot Mold

I'm not sure. With a silicone mold I think it would work because of the flexibility. But without any flex in the PLA it might not be possible to get the cast out of the mold. Also printing those parts to get a smooth inner surface might be difficult. At least I can't visualize it. Everything's curve...

Re: Need help with printing tiny parts

Tim, I see your point. I hadn't noticed that bulge. Unfortunately I don't have the mechanical intuition to know if it would work as a gear or not. I tweaked the settings a bit in an attempt to improve it. I tried to trick the nozzle into behaving like a smaller one by setting the nozzle diameter to ...

Re: Build Time

I've noticed that when I print a lot of similar objects, the size of the gcode file is often a good indicator of print time. That is, if a 1 MB gcode file printed at 40 minutes, then a 1.5 MB gcode file will print at 60 minutes. In the general case, if you're printing off the SD card what you can do...

Re: rotation with simplify

Double click on the model, or on it's name in the box on the left of the screen. That brings up a dialog where you can manually set the translation, scale and rotation for each axis. The only "gotcha" with it is if you do this and save it in a factory file, when you re-load the factory file you'll h...

Re: Need help with printing tiny parts

Amazingly, the gear printed even better than my larger test case: gear7mm.JPG The ruler marks at the bottom are in mm, so the diameter is about 6 mm, and each tooth is under a mm. I seem to remember little gears like that from some kit or other when I was a kid. Looks and feels exactly like them. Ed...

Re: Need help with printing tiny parts

No prob. It's fun taking up the challenges others are having and a great way for me to learn. That gear is tiny! When this current print is done I'm going to try printing it in PLA with the same settings I used before and see how it does. I have the same setup with windows 7 being the laptop connect...
