with the accurate length of filament on a spool, knowing the cost of the spool.. the slicing software gives very accurate estimates on amount of filament used BEFORE a print? or do you need to wait til the print is finished to see how much filament was used? how accurate is the length of filament used that the slicer tells you?

The slicer knows how much plastic is used before it's sent to the printer. It's usually in comments at the end of the file.
