the width will adjust the flow as well so that it bulges out the side to the width you tell it to. imagine using a caulking gun. cut the tip off the tube so its 1/4" hole. hold it 1/8" off the surface. pump a bead 1/8" high and a 1/4" wide. now hold the tip 1/4" off the surface and pump the material out to give you a bead 3/8" wide. its all in the flow and how much material you are pumping out. the first layer settings imo are really only for evening out the build plate surface if you have a plate that has a little warp or wave to it OR if you are printing at very low layer heights.

. Ok so I should set the values to 100% and not mess with it really? I am using a PEI bed and have had a tough time getting ABS to stick. I used a feeler gauge and set each corner to .13mm but at that height the ABS still won't stick. I used the layer height and set it to 90% thinking it would bring the nozzle closer and it was sticking. So I am not sure what else I can do.

i only increase it when printing at .15 layer height or below. not s3d does something funny.....when you set the first layer height below 100 to bring the nozzle closer it does not alter the flow rate. this way you can sort of smoosh the filament down. i still however never do this. i just leave it at 100 all the time and adjust my gap tighter so that first layer prints perfectly. its just one less setting you need to fiddle with. your gap may be still too big.

I would suggest using the G-code offset as your main hammer: http://www.forum.makergear.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2193

First, print a thin wall calibration cube and set it up so your first layer is spot on. Try that. If you still have trouble sticking, I would immediately go for glue stick or hair spray, but if you're using PEI, try dropping the g-code offset by a few hundredths at a time.

Haven't seen this so figured I would post it - just got an email from INTSERVO announcing the black/White/Orange and Green PETG. $29.99 a spool with free shipping over $60 or on amazon prime by EOW with free 2 day prime shipping.

Good stuff.

I have a V3b and using settings that Jules has on page 27. Prints great at 100% Infill but when I try to go with 20% infill it clogs everytime it hits the first infill layer it gets about 1/4 into the layer before clogging. It seemes to be almost draging on the first round around the outside before the infill starts. I am using Black esun PETG and printing a fairly large item

Simplify 3D

Interior fill % - 20
Outline overlap - 10%
Infill extrusion width - 130%
Minimum infill length - 4.00 mm
Print sparse infil every 1 layer
Infill angle offset 45
-45
