ahh well i use inches not metric so as long as i can measure to .001" i am good. i use an inexpensive analog set i have had for prob 15 years and its dead nuts on the money. .05mm is .002" its alright i guess but wouldnt hurt for maybe a little more accuracy.

I started using metric for woodworking when I got into Festool power tools and the 32mm standard for cabinetry, and when I got my m2 it seemed like metric is the native language for 3D printers, so I figured I'd just go with it.

yeah mm is pretty much the standard for modeling, consumer products and mostly everything mechanical these days. i have a wood working background myself. i have a couple festool items but still work in inches. now mostly i am in or around the custom motorcycle industry or classic cars and there isnt a single metric fastener on any of it. i have a bolt bin with prob $10k in fasteners and there isnt a single metric fastener in it. i got my m2 and needed a 3mm allen bolt and had to order it from mcmaster. :roll:

@sprior,

For measuring filament, I got an inexpensive micrometer ($34.99 USD at Harbor Freight), and it has a resolution specified at 0.001 mm / 0.00005" and accuracy at 0.004 mm / 0.00015", able to measure up to 1 inch or 25 mm. (Not sure why it's not 25.4 mm, but whatever...) It's a Pittsburgh brand, model 68305. Good enough for what I need.

BTW, I had also emailed Taulman directly about this issue and was told they'd send a replacement roll with a label for return shipping of the out of spec roll so their QA folks can have a look at it. The only downside was the replacement won't ship for a week or two, but I wasn't planning anything specific with Nylon yet so that's not an issue. I mentioned the possibility of baking it in case there's a moisture issue and he said they'd rather just replace it.

The bottom line is Taulman is standing behind their product and that's great.

yes i have never heard anything bad about their support. i have heard many cases of out of spec spools but in every case it was no questions asked replacement. they are very good with that from what i gather.

Picked up a digital micrometer at Harbor Freight today - another tool I hadn't foreseen owning. Now I have to make sure I don't try to use it for woodworking and drive myself nuts trying to get a cut to within 0.001mm.
