Industrial perceptions of 3dprinted end use parts?

Post by hybridprinter » Sun Mar 20, 2016 3:19 am

Curious what others are experiencing in regards to their customers view of 3dprinting. Are companies now accepting 3dprinted parts as replacements to the standard machined versions? Are machinists beginning to offer 3dprinted end use parts over the machined versions?
Is anybody here 3dprinting parts which are for end use in production environments or other industries? If so how are the 3dprinted parts comparing in performance to their machined counterparts?

I've got a consistent customer who's using my parts in a commercial setting -- different vending machine money accepters. In my case, his volume is so low that its not feasible for him to do anything but printed parts.

They are putting a sticker over the bottom surface of the part though, so the 3D printed look isn't directly visible to the general public.

Is the sticker incidental to the installation or intended to conceal the nature of your part? I guess I would be surprised if it were the latter.

I think it's a happy coincidence. The parts stick through the standardized hole on the front of a vending machine, so it's a convinent spot to put a flat sticker, which gives them a bit more zing than the glossy undersurface of the part.
