Length of a new spool? Determining amount of filament left

Good point! If there is risk in running out..switch it out before bed...I could always switch back to run through the rest of the spool..
Re: Length of a new spool? Determining amount of filament le
Go by weight. I've never run out since I started doing that. The Hatchbox spools (my most common) weigh about 225gr. Most others are close, 205-225gr is the usual range. As I get to the bottom of the spool, I tend to have the weight scrawled on the side in sharpie, so for prints where color doesn't matter, I'll grab a spool that has just-enough. I can get down to only a few inches of wasted material by doing this and I haven't lost a print since I started doing it this way. BTW, if you DO run out, it's pretty easy to reslice and resume a failed print from where it ended. The seam is virtually undetectable. I did that a couple of times before I started weighing my spools.
