Glass Bed Dual Purpose?

Post by Bluesoulx12 » Sat Aug 02, 2014 5:39 am

Figured I would pose a question here as to if anyone uses Kapton tape on one side of their glass and the other side leave it bare (or even painters tape) and swap it depending on ABS/PLA needs? Not sure if it would work in practice rather than theoretically.

I do exactly that, kapton+abs-slurry one one side, hairspray on the other. The only practical issue flipping the glass is its effect on the z-endstop calibration. Normally I don't bother adjusting, but just fiddle with first-layer-height. As I have separate S3D profiles for ABS vs PLA anyways, I can often flip the glass without having to really adjust anything (other than flushing filament)
You also have to be slightly careful about making sure the surface is 100% free of specs of filament, otherwise they get squished/melted onto the hotplate when you flip the glass. - they're easily removed though
