Aloha from a New M2 Owner

Post by bathyshawaii » Tue Dec 30, 2014 12:16 am

Aloha Everyone,

Just received my M2 on the 26th and am one happy camper. I've been printing too much to get on this forum until now. :D

I purchased this printer mainly to do one thing: prototype parts for a watch case for the world's first Atomic wristwatch. I was sending my parts out to be made and it was simply taking too long. With the M2 I can get a good feel for everything before it gets sent off to be milled from aluminum. And of course, now that I'm using it, I can see how many fun things I can do with it. The quality of the prints is amazing, especially considering I have almost no experience.

I definitely have a lot to learn - I live in a pretty remote place (Kauai) and there's only a handful of maker-minded people here, but at least we all know each other. :) Right now I'm pretty basic, using PLA, Sli3er, Printrun and Sketchup all on a mac...but getting good prints nonetheless. I've got some ABS to try soon, but for now I'm happy with 3-4 spools of various PLA.

I love forums and so I really look forward to becoming part of the Makergear community.

All the best, John

Hey, John!
Welcome to the fun! Let me know if you need some in-person technical consulting. I understand some cold weather is headed our way here in Cleveland ... ;-)
I hope you'll get some photos of your prints to post on the Print Showcase forum.
Dale

Thanks for the welcome Dale & Jim,

I grew up in Shaker Hts, probably about 10 minutes from you Dale; and lived in both Boston and Chicago (which was the worst of all) so I understand how you guys feel. Living out here has pros and cons - but the weather is a huge pro no doubt.

I just ordered up Simplify3D - sounds like that's a worthwhile upgrade from open source 8-)
