The time difference of 80% vs 15% is only 3 minutes. The layer height difference alone would add 33% more time, and you have a few other things like print speed and x/y jog speed slightly slower so I guess all that adds up.Jules wrote:Yeah, that's the increased infill (80% vs 15%), but i also have the printing speed slowed down a bit. If you just want to do a draft at the slightly slower print speeds (it won't add that much time) decrease the infill back down to 15%.
Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?

Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
If anything, the blobs are even bigger using your FFF (they just aren't in a line because start position was optimized for fastest printing). I've now used rsilvers FFF, your FFF, and my own FFF modified 10 times trying to get rid of the blobs. This is so perpelxing..

Is your pla wet ? Humidity in filament can wreak havoc with quality and printability.
Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
I received my M2 new about a week ago and the filament has been mounted ever since. I live in Los Angeles, the last few days have been more humid than normal but I was having the blob issues even in the first few days of printing.PcS wrote:Is your pla wet ? Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
the blobs are almost always at the start of a line. its what oozes out during a jump. i much prefer to have all my start and stops in a line making a seam. it much easier to clean up. if the filament is damp as patrick said, it will be very hard to control the oozing. the moisture vaporizes making pressure inside the hot end. a little more retract and coasting can help the situation as well. also turn on the wipe feature to maybe 3mm. make sure in the advanced tab you have the only retract when crossing open spaces box unchecked.
Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
I gotta say... I've never gotten perfect seams on a no-corners object. Ever. And I've tried lots of different settings. You can make them better, you can make them worse, but they never disappear. I'd love to be proved wrong.
Some suggestions:
Some suggestions:
- If your print has a corner, preferably a convex corner, put the seam there.
- If it doesn't have a corner, pick a spot and put the seam there anyway. A single seam looks better than random zits strewn everywhere.
- If you really don't want to see them at all, use some finishing techniques. I like XTC-3D, some light sanding, and a coat of paint. You can also just sand down the seam and use primer.
- Kiss slicer is supposed to have some superior technique for dealing with seams, you might want to give that a go (no personal experience).
Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
Thanks guys. Using all your advice, this seems to be about as good as I can get it. Kind of a bummer. Really appreciate everyones time!

Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
I have one more possibility, but it might make some folks unhappy.
I noticed that both versions 3.01 and 3.0 of S3D used a different travel path - one that backs up on itself frequently. It's not something that I noticed happening in version 2.2.
If they have changed an algorithm somewhere, it might be causing that. My final suggestion (and it might be completely wrong) is to install the older version of S3D (version 2.2) and give it one final shot using that. It seems to me that all that backing up would inherently create blobs.
But like i said....i might be wrong. It's happened before.

Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
yes as jin said there is always a seam. you cant eliminate it completely. keep in mind though that there is always a seam in any plastic part. injection molded parts have parting lines in the mold as well. a seam looks more natural to me in a plastic part than being scattered all over.
jules, the blob control actually got better in the newer version due to the retract while wipe feature. (be sure that is turned on btw) the older version used to do each function separately causing a larger blob.

Nope didn't have that turned on - might make a difference.jimc wrote: jules, the blob control actually got better in the newer version due to the retract while wipe feature. (be sure that is turned on btw) the older version used to do each function separately causing a larger blob.
