M2 here I come...

Post by dklassen » Thu Oct 09, 2014 11:21 pm

After months of research I decided to get my feet wet with a Printrbot Simple Metal. Been printing with it for about three months now and I'm very impressed with this little printer. Spent many hours and weeks learning, tweaking and calibrating. The quality of parts I'm getting looks to me to be on part with just about anything I've seen. That being said, I'm ready to move up in the world. I narrowed it down to the M2 or the Ultimaker 2. The more research I did the more it became clear the M2 was the machine for me. I'm really looking forward to diving into what this printer can do. Need to call and ask a couple questions tomorrow but other than that I'm ready to pull the trigger.

It'd have been a closer race between the UM1 and M2. I own both, and while the UM1 can slightly out-quality the M2 at times, the lack of ABS support and only just-recent bed upgrade holds it way back. The UM2 is effectively the same machine as the UM1 just prettier, with a crappier extruder.

You made the right call -- my M2 is a workhorse and after I finish my dual-extruder upgrade I predict it will continue to run forever.

I really wanted to want the UM2 but I kept coming back to the M2, plus I like the fact that it's made in the good ol USA.

Got a ship date of Oct 30th. Man, when they say 2 - 3 weeks they mean it. 3 weeks plus shipping. Oh well, I'm super happy I got it on the books and looking forward to seeing what this baby can do. In the mean time, the ol Printrbot Simple Metal keeps cranking out the prints.

It was 3 weeks for me too, right to the day. Mine ships Friday. I guess it's good that they are busy. I don't mind waiting for a quality machine.

Next on my list is a DLP printer.

It will very likely have the V3B extruder, which to be honest is still a great extruder. The dual-extrusion kit is still in beta as far as I know.
