Filter for exhaust (or intake) fan? Anyone using a filter, with an enclosure, on the exhaust air, or intake air? Was looking at different filter options and ran across a small, about 1.5 inches thick, car filter clearanced for $4, Anyone think one of these would work? Thinking it may be a bit restrictive.

I'm not filtering the air. Hadn't crossed my mind. On my PC cases I used filters that are sold to be used in HVAC floor vents. FWIW, one should never add filters to a floor vent, but the material worked well for computer cases.
