I am experiencing an ongoing misalignment which would appear to be due to the belt tension because it always affects the x offset. The tension seems fine but how do I test it? Any tips or rule of thumb greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum....
Are you sure it's not your nozzle hitting parts or globs of the print causing the misalignment? (this happens sometimes)
What marital are you printing?
Do you have any pictures of the problem?

Sthone,
I have adjusted the z axis retraction but now I am getting layer misalignment on every layer creating 'leaning' prints. The amount of misalignment is almost the same for every layer.

I've also had this happen when I neglected to lube the rails.
