First Order Tie Pilot Helmet
First Order Tie Pilot Helmet
Hi Everyone,
I'm in the process of building a cosplay suit of a First Order Tie Fighter Pilot. I've recently printed off the sections to the helmet to start and have just finished cleaning it up and giving it a first coat of primer.
EDIT: I cancelled my previous web hosting and so the pics I had here are gone. I've replaced them with images of the finished helmet. Cheers.

Awesome! (Need to borrow that to hand out the Halloween treats this year!)

Thanks Jules
Re: First Order Tie Pilot Helmet
Very Cool.... That must have took some time to print. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Primer hides a world of sins, and makes everything look great. And is that some sort of filler? Bondo?
Re: First Order Tie Pilot Helmet
wow man! really nice!
Re: First Order Tie Pilot Helmet
I did use bondo and some glazing putty to smooth it out, however I now use xtc-3d for prints. Much easier to work with, sand and paint.
The two front sections took about 13 hours each to print due to all the support needed. On avg though about 8 hrs a piece after that.

Since you're going to be glazing the whole thing, seams matter less, so you can slice up the model as much as you want to reduce support. Sometimes printing things upside down also help. Here's the cuts I ended up for on a remixed face mask: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:743050
Not that it's interesting to you, having finished your print and all. But maybe for the future.

Re: First Order Tie Pilot Helmet
You're absolutely right on that. This was my first print so it was of course a learning experience. Since then I have printed the shoulder armor and various other pieces. I did exactly what you have suggested to add a few extra splices and reduce the areas needing support. It works great! Thank you for your advice!
The helmet is painted and assembled now, I'm just working on finishing the air supply connections on the front. I'll have some pics of the finished helmet shortly.
