Fishing Lures
Fishing Lures
I am an avid fisherman, and buy unpainted crankbait blanks to custom paint them. I would like try printing some blanks, but new to printing and design software. Thingiverse has a few. Does anyone have stl files for lures they would be willing to share? The following links show examples of both an unpainted blank and finished lure. Thanks.

Re: Fishing Lures
I printed a few glow in the dark ones of These from thingy but I haven't actually tried them yet. I don't really like the fact that they just use screw eyes though, I'd rather have a solid wire running through the pieces. The first one I printed and tried a screw eye with the tail is thin so it was easy to snap off. (Could juts be the crappy PLA I used as it's brittle on the roll.)
I did a search using yeggi and found some interesting Results thought that might be worth trying.
I actually want to try designing my own but I have so many projects on "the list" I just haven't gotten around to it yet but kow that fishing season is here it might be time to move it up on the list.

I haven't seen Capt. John around here in awhile, but he has made some. I don't think his models are open for sharing though.

Yeah he came to mind when I first read this thread but I know he patented at least one of the designs he was prototyping so no way he'd share that one.thunderbt3 wrote:I haven't seen Capt. John around here in awhile, but he has made some. I don't think his models are open for sharing though.

Those are both a HOOT! (Might have to make a few for hubs' Christmas stocking.)
Love the idea of the Goldfish!

.
Here's another lure from concept to completion. This was my first go at using Fusion360 and while I found it a bit limited compared to Solidworks it's a very impressive program especially the sculpting environment.
I started with a picture of a actual fish I caught.
Using the sculpting environment of Fusion360 it was surprisingly easy to get the basic shape. Adding the other features just evolved basic sketches and extrudes but this is the basic lure design so far. I wanted to add more features like fins and gills but thats where the limited part of Fusion came in. I can't figure out how to do offset extrudes.
The lure is printed flat in two halves (well four pieces because it's jointed) then glued together.
The finished print....
...and the completed project after a bit of airbrushing and sealing. I just need to add hooks and test it out.
STL's coming soon to a Thingiverse near you...............................

I'm not much of a fisherman, but the hubster would probably raise my allowance if I were to make him a few of your lures.....he's avid. (And gone much of the time as a result.)
I wondered how you were getting such a realistic finish.....airbrush. (Great job on them, they look real.)
