I have just finished assembling an M2. X and Y stops work fine, but the Z-stop does not stop the stepper from moving in the -Z axis. I can confirm that the LED lights and the M119 code returns the correct status of the switch when open and closed. Could this be an issue with the firmware?

Confirmed that updating the firmware to the new version on makergear.com solved the issue.
