Post by peterkozmd » Thu Nov 20, 2014 8:25 pm

New to makerbot m2 (the hardware as well as the forum). Keep getting the echo: cold extrusion error message popping up in pronterface. I was wondering if i could get some help in fixing this problem. Thanks!

What temp is your extrusion set at? Ceramic heater should be 180-190C, V3B 210C+.

The default firmware for the M2 cuts out at (I believe) 160C. If you're dipping down to this, we need to figure out why...

An intermittent thermistor connection can produce this problem: a disconnected thermocouple will look like a very cold extruder. If the hot end heats up correctly, but you get occasional "cold extrusion" warnings, that's the most likely the cause.

Heat the extruder a bit above room temperature, then watch the temperature readout while you wiggle all the connectors and cables between the hot end and the controller. I predict you'll find a loose joint or a broken wire along the way...
