Hey guys,

Bought some eSun ABS and first print went down beautifully. But since then, ive been getting clogs. Ive always switch filaments using the M302 commant and heating to 100C (which I think gets almost all of the plastic out of the nozzle). Ive got an inline filter, which doesnt seem to stop the problem. Also, the tension adjust on the gear assembly is so tight its actually deforming the top of the gap(reducing the relaxed width by about half)... that should be plenty of tension to grip right? When I pull it out, half the filament (where the gear was trying to grab) appears to be carved as though I hit it with a dremel drum sander, so there is no doubt it trying to push.

Im on V3B, and my temp is set to 250 (nozzle that is) Nozzle is stock (.35mm?)


Im using the R-Silvers settings, which always worked great for MakerGear ABS. Do I need to ditch eSun and switch to MakerGear ABS, or is there something else I should try while troubleshoot.

I'd say YES, ditch that stuff.

I had the same problems with Prototype supply (which is made by eSun I believe) first few prints were ok but then the stuff kept jamming, I tried everything even changed to a brand new V4 hot end and it clogged the first try too. It was so aggravating.... I bought a roll of Makergear stuff and been running nonstop with out any problems what so ever. The only downside is it cost me like $50 with shipping to get a roll from MG. I wish MG would list their filament on Amazon along with the printers, the shipping cost to by filament direct from them is a deal killer for me.

Esun abs usually prints beauitiful. Not saying you couldnt have a bad roll since it does happen but every roll i have ever had was great and super consistant. First thing is your probably causing the problem itself by having so much tension on the filament. Too much tension and you squish the filament out of round and the dia gets too large to fit in the lower hole of the filament drive. Pla you have less of a problem with because its so hard but most other plastics you cannot overtighten like that. You only need just enough to sink the teeth in the plastic and thats it

Thanks for the Tip, I managed to back out the clog, and then measure the portion of Filament below the ground-section where the gear carved its pocket. The Clean areas of the Filament (off the spool) averages around 0.176-0.176 The crushed (now slightly elliptical) area from the drive deforming the filament had a typical Width of around 0.183-0.188 max. The feed Hole seems to be around 0.195-0.200. So I don't think the problem is so much a deformation though that was a great thing to check.

Il probably order some more MakerGear Filament (*under duress) so I can get a couple of things done.

*2 spools of black ABS at $40 each with $20 to ship, that's just crazy expensive. >:(

How fast is the printer set ? 70 mms ? Try 50 mms. Just curious if that makes a difference. Maybe the esun abs filament is harder to extrude like the petg ?

1.88 is too tight. I know the hole is slightly bigger but your forgetting the plastic also expands as it gets warmer in the hot end. You cant crush the filament like that. I almost use no tension on my screw. I can even back it out and the gear teeth still sink in. Your results may vary on that though.
