Printing NEW M2 Parts in Simplify 3d Wont Work

Post by jcspball13 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 12:18 am

When I import the file (trying to make a new ext ruder filament drive)

When I import it it says it is too large; but when I try to scale it, it does nothing. I am guessing it is saved in inches?

Any suggestions?

Nevermind! Looks like the download was corrupt or something; downloaded it ok, but somehow did not work

I downloaded it again, and it is fine!

Sorry for the trouble!

Glad you got that figured out. Most likely what happened is you tried to save the file from the main Github view - while the link may say "*.stl", it actually opens up another webpage with the .stl preview; to properly download the model itself, you need to click Raw from that preview page.

Nevermind, found the github page. It doesn't specify abs or pla and what infill to use. Would like to use my orange pla but am not sure if it is a good choice.

Nope, for the drives and motor mount, you want to use something like PETG or ABS. (PLA is temperature sensitive and probably not strong enough.) For things like the filament guide seat and the covers for the wires above the mount, you can use PLA if you want to, but most people would prefer that all the printed parts be done out of the same material. (Get some orange PETG - it really looks cool.) Print with a higher infill for more strength, 40% to 60% is plenty.

Jules, I am just going to pm you everytime I have a question! You seem to be the most active guy on this forum. Any recommendations an PETG brand?

No, no - i'm still just a very junior grade helper. I'm usually stuck at the computer all day with the design work that i do and it's easy for me to poke my nose in and check for the very basic questions that i can answer. Most of the guys who really know what's going on have to go do other jobs as well. But believe me, I leave all of the tuff stuff for them. :P

The only brand I've tried is eSun, but it's what most everyone uses here - it's inexpensive and good quality.
