Model won't print pre view in S3D

Have questions or comments about Simplify3D, Slic3r, Cura, Reptier, etc? Or wondering about which CAD software to use...discuss it here...

My models come in upside down sometimes, if you have ever used Cura you know how easy it is to just move where ever you want. Not so with S3D, the rotation axis seems to only work in one direction, around the Z axis.

It's worth pointing out that automatic mesh repair programs must make a gazillion assumptions about what each model should look like and, in some cases, can "repair" a non-manifold model into something completely unrecognizable. That one repair program seems to work better than another may depend more on the types of errors fed into it than its actual capabilities: assumptions perfect for one model can shred a different one.

I'd say crappy models cause nearly as much heartache & confusion as platform alignment...

Not sure what S3D has to do with actually the buying an M2. You can use any slicer you want :?

In S3D just double click on the model and you can then rotate on any axis you want in the window that pops up. There's even a function in the top menu to drop a certain edge on the bed just by clicking on it.

But S3D is optimized for the M2, or so I read here.As far as "M2 specific profiles", I think you'll find that Cura wasn't fine-tuned around the M2 like S3D was, regardless of how much you tweak it. It's easier to use and more compatible with more models, yes, but its finish and polish isn't nearly as good and no amount of tweaking can fix this

We must have different programs... double click on the model does not bring up axis rotation via the mouse? Only options are enter the number. I found the written Tutorials for S3D and they are pretty good.

Go into prefrences or options and make sure the 3d transform gizmo box is checked. Now you will get the rotation and move tools in all 3 axis. Choose the tool you want from the toolbar on the right. S3d also will set any surface you want on the build platform. You can choose a face and align to build platform. It will set that face down on the table

You will find s3d does about everything that all the other slicers do and more but you know the saying.....the best place to hide something is right in front of you? Well s3d has mastered that. Lol. Really its just like any piece of software. The more powerful then the more tools and options which makes the learning curve a little more steep. Be patient, you will learn the ins and outs of it in no time.

A little follow up on the first post. S3D would not display or run but Cura did and it was because S3D saw the errors and would not run. I did the fix uploading to the 3D correction service (http://netfabb.azurewebsites.net) and S3D now took the model just fine.
So over the week end using Cura I ran my original 3D model on my TAZ, it took 7 hours to run! I ran the corrected model file and it took about 3 hours to run. So it pays to listen to what S3D is telling you.
