SD card question

Post by 747skys » Tue Dec 15, 2015 1:00 am

Ok, so I'm a bit new but I thought that printing from the SD card would free up my computer for doing other things. Well I had downloaded my part to my SD card using Simplify 3D and started printing. About the last 30 seconds of the print, I shut down S3D and my printing stopped dead. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to keep S3D open even though printing from the SD? Anyone have an idea?

Activity over the USB port can trigger a reset. If you want to ensure that nothing will disturb it, disconnect the cable once you've started the print.

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, like jsc said you have to pull the USB cable from the printer/computer. Then the printer will be unaffected. Don't use the disconnect button in Simplify3D or do a Safely Remove Hardware, or even close the software with it still connected. Just pull the plug.

Thanks, will try that. How about if I don't even open S3D before I start a print from the SD card?

You need to pull the end cord.

Not sure if I understand what you mean. Unless you have the LCD upgrade or some other way of communicating with the printer, you do need S3D's Machine Control Panel to start the print.
