Model won't print pre view in S3D
Model won't print pre view in S3D
Shopping for a new or new like M2, in the meantime trying to understand how or why S3D won't work on this file. It comes up and looks fine but in preview its showing a 20 minute build time when I printed yesterday on my TAZ 5 using Cura in about 4 hours?
Ok so I can't upload a STL file nor can I change the extension. So how do I present the problem?

Try zipping the file first.

Re: Model won't print pre view in S3D
Well it was not that big of file but here it is Zipped.
Cura does it fine and I really want to use S3D with my new to me sometime soon M2.

The model is rife with non-manifold edges and self-intersections. Run it through a repairer, either Netfabb Basic or their web service (http://netfabb.azurewebsites.net) and it works fine.
Re: Model won't print pre view in S3D
It's not the size....the forum doesn't recognize the STL file type as valid. All of them have to be zipped before uploading.wmgeorge wrote:Well it was not that big of file but here it is Zipped.

Re: Model won't print pre view in S3D
So why did it print fine with my TAZ 5 and Cura just yesterday?
Regardless of whatever, it worked fine thanks guys. That file was imported from 123D and taken into Fusion 3D where I attempted to make it the way I wanted, rather than screwing with 123D again. From now on all my models will be done in either Fusion 360 or FreeCAD.
Now If I can just the model moving and rotating down, I am working on that.

Re: Model won't print pre view in S3D
My understanding is that S3D is a lot more sensitive to non-manifold and intersection errors than Cura.wmgeorge wrote:So why did it print fine with my TAZ 5 and Cura just yesterday?
Re: Model won't print pre view in S3D
I was so frustrated I even downloaded SlicR to try and decided if I could not make S3D work then maybe a M2 is not for me.

Slic3r works too. We've all bumped up against the non-manifold edges thing in S3D at one point or another, 'specially when you're first trying it. (Lots of the files on Thingiverse have issues that have to be fixed first.)
Netfab is a real boon for fixing them up and getting on down the road. (Haven't tried Slic3r so i'm not familiar with it.)

Re: Model won't print pre view in S3D
You can use any slicer you like with your M2. I've done fine prints with Cura and Slic3r. It's not wedded to Simplify3D, just because many of us on here use it.
Do you mean moving the model around on the preview? Try double clicking it.Now If I can just the model moving and rotating down, I am working on that.
