Can't get support in upper part of model

I'm trying to print this building and in the upper most rectangular box it's not printing any support but only hollow. I can see that the piece that is below this is solid.
The rest of the building has support that was generated automatically, the support rectangular boxes stop short of this top peice of geometry. I tried to manually add them, but they stop short of this top piece.

Any idea why?

To be clear, it's the upper part with the red 45degree nozzle movement, that I want support in.
You can see in these other screenshots that the lower part has support.

You probably added the top structure as a separate object and positioned it manually until it "looked right". However, it's not joined to the building below it: its bottom surface is very slightly above the top surface of the building, with an "air gap" in between.

The slicer must obey the geometry in the STL file and, when it sees two separate blocks, it can't run support through the air gap: support must remain inside the objects.

If the top surface of the building and the bottom surface of the upper structure both have "surface" infill patterns, then that's the problem: bad geometry.

I just opened it in max, and I can see that this top box is pushed down into the box below it, so there is not gap. But the conflicting boxes may have caused the problems?

The model had problems when I first imported. I combined into one mesh, still had problems, then used netfab cloud model fixing service and it appeared to fix everything. I've printed the whole building and it looks great except for the roof being droopy bc bridging fell in.

Maybe I'll try to move top box so it's sitting flush on box below it.

for geometry that square wouldn't be better to model it in autocad? you can be precise in 3dmax as well but autocad is easier
it would take 30 minutes max to model it in cad and i would make it full and fill it with a 6% rectangular filling 45 -45

Honestly I just don't use CAD anymore. I only use REVIT, Max and sometimes sketchup. They didn't teach us cad in Arch school.

what about Rhino is precise as well... Rhinoceros

if you know how to use revit really autocad is no that far apart and sketchup is very similar to Rhinoceros... but both cad/rhino are easier to be sure to close geometry and precise

Revit is good too but very rigid very specific i don't think it allow to freely model the way a 3d model for 3d print should be model with 45 angle here and there to support where not seen or with room completely full where is not visible.

overall between those 3 program probably the best is sketchup but i really would suggest you to try to learn the basic of cad or rhino they are really not that different from what u are using already

I've used rhino a little before. What do you render vray with? I use vray in max.

vray corona or octane i always like to try all programs

honestly i stick to Vray mostly because i have a large library of object in Vray and I don't feel like to jump to octane or corona

I have to say Corona/Octane have some cool feature pretty impressive the real time render (octane) is great and snow seem to be much easier to model/render

Overall if you are starting now I would probably suggest to try using at least 2 Vray and or Corona or Octane
Vray because is the standard most office use it and you don't want to "not know it"
