eSun Wood filament

This is some pretty cool stuff, gang. I think you'll like it. I'm starting this thread if you want to discuss it or have any questions about it - I've entered the particulars on how to print it in insta's "Filaments that Work" thread. And the only finish work on this is a light sanding at this point. (It needs more to finish it off, but it's low priority at the moment.)

So, without further ado, i give you....a wooden barrel!

I printed a sample of this filament and everything went smooth as could be. I thought it was quite easy to print with BUT that was with an e3d and that has a ptfe liner. I can see where it might be quirky with a metal bore like the v3b. I love old barrels. Where did you get the model? Is the brown one in the pic painted or did you try stain on it?

Thank you very kindly - I worked that one up to test the wood filament. (I'll put in on Thingie later - we've had a little crisis here.) The dark brown one is just printed in PLA, for comparison, but the wood filament does take stain to a certain extent, which is interesting, and needs further testing.

(And we need to get off this thread - i know!)

here is one. i tiny horga'hn i printed awhile back. i think i did this a .08 layer height. you cant see any layer lines with this stuff.

I was busy working on my own thread for the wood filament during the day and didn't even notice that you posted yours until after I hit "Submit". I guess we'll just say that great minds think alike. . .

In my defense, I wrote mine as an Amazon review, to counter the one bad existing review, and just posted it up on the MakerGear forum as an afterthought.

But if you are using a different nozzle than the V4 PTFE to print it, you should still go post your settings on insta's thread. Or take a look at mine and see if any are significantly different - i'm willing to try different ones to see if it works any better. I had a boatload of strings.

And i might go comment on your amazon review, to add another positive note. (I bought mine directly from Intservo, but it shouldn't matter.) It is a good filament. (not sure i want to ruin the supply by telling everyone how much fun it is though....)

I also have a V4 with the PTFE liner, so not much difference there. The differences are fairly minor. I printed at 210C with the bed at 50C, print speed at 100mm/s (using the Smoothieboard, which does seem to be able to get consistently higher speeds than the RAMBo). I had no trouble getting the filament to start. However, it is, as you noted, a very oozy filament, and I've noticed that those kind of filaments will often completely drain themselves out while the extruder sits idle, then it takes a lot of extruding to get them going again. I may have just gotten lucky.

Please do submit an Amazon review. It doesn't deserve to be weighted toward the low end by somebody who expected it to print pure mahogany or something. . .
