Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
Tell me your 'overview' and 'ooze control' settings as well as your outline speed, I have experience in successfully getting rid of the blob. I documented my testing at viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2539. By and afar, I found that having the correct extrusion multiplier/width and coast distance is essential.
Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
I actually saw your post earlier and tried coast distances up to 4mm and it didn't do much for me. Here's where my settings currently are at. Keep in mind, I'm printing PLA, not ABS.swbluto wrote:Tell me your 'overview' and 'ooze control' settings as well as your outline speed, I have experience in successfully getting rid of the blob. Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
Your outline speed is 48mm/second based on your printing speed of 80mm/s. On a flat surface, this would be OK, but on the curved surface of your octopus, I believe this might be causing the blob you're seeing. Try a lower outline speed %, something like 25%, and let me know if you see an improvement.
Also, your extrusion width and/or extrusion multiplier might be a little bit too high, causing more filament than ideal to extrude.

I got rid of my blob without that turned on.Jules wrote:Nope didn't have that turned on - might make a difference.jimc wrote: jules, the blob control actually got better in the newer version due to the retract while wipe feature. (be sure that is turned on btw) the older version used to do each function separately causing a larger blob.

It didn't change the blobsswbluto wrote:Your outline speed is 48mm/second based on your printing speed of 80mm/s. Actually, that is a possibility - my extrusion multiplier for that particular filament is .81, and the filament measurement was 1.73mm avg. (I put your values into my settings since you said you had done the extrusion calibrations for extrusion and height and had it perfect.) You might want to re-do the calibration and make sure that you are printing out exactly 0.4mm width on your squares, and exactly 2.0 mm tall.swbluto wrote:.... your extrusion width and/or extrusion multiplier might be a little bit too high, causing more filament than ideal to extrude.
Or you could try reducing the printing temperature. (Might cut down the ooze.)
If you want to keep messing with it, that is. I find that a dremel tool with a burr grinder takes care of little bumps rather handily.

I'm currently printing that little octo - he's cute and I was planning on printing him one day anyway. So far, there hasn't been a booger on him. I'm printing him from 2.2. When I'm done, I'm gonna print him from 3.0. (Because the burning question of "Why?" must always be answered.

Haha let me know how it goes. I've spent the whole day trying to get rid of the blobs so I'm left with 14 octopuses and frustration hahaha. I did the calibration again and it really is pretty spot on. I did try printing with a multiplier or .85 for the heck of it and still got blobs.Jules wrote:Actually, that is a possibility - my extrusion multiplier for that particular filament is .81, and the filament measurement was 1.73mm avg. Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
Well, for what it's worth - you could probably put together a passable SciFi channel movie with them.

Re: Can't Eliminate Blobs at Loop Start / End?
Could you try, all at once (Doing one setting change at a time is probably not going to be successful since all the settings need to work in unison):
25% outline speed
.81 mulitiplier
1.75 filament diameter (Why is yours 1.76?)
coast = 5mm (It's hard to go "too high" with coast.)
uncheck "Retract only when crossing open spaces".
If you don't notice a single difference (The blobs might still be there, but it should definitely change the appearance in some way that'd give you a direction to keep moving in, i.e., smaller blobs), I'd be genuinely shocked.
Also, please verify that you have a .35mm nozzle.

I do have a .35mm nozzle (V3b).swbluto wrote:Could you try, all at once (Doing one setting change at a time is probably not going to be successful since all the settings need to work in unison):

Here it is at those exact settings. The blobs are smaller and now there is deformation (wrinkling) extending out from them. Since I'm extruding less material, I know my calibration is quite a bit off at .81.
