What, exactly, is carbon-filled nylon good for?jimc wrote:I have another sample here I have to give a try which is interesting. carbon filled nylon.
Re: esun stainless and copper pla
well im sure it would give properties similar to glass filled nylon. adding glass fibers to nylon actually changes the properties tremendously. it becomes much more rigid and strength goes through the roof. you have commonly seen it used in thing like the side mirrors and door handles in your car. you notice a car after its about 10 years old or so of sitting outside some of the black plastic has the sparkling look to it as it has degraded? thats glass filled nylon.
Re: esun stainless and copper pla
The extra strength really only happens on injection molded stuff where the glass/carbon fibers don't have layer boundaries to contend with. In our case, they should make the plastic much stiffer, which will cut down on warping tremendously (in theory, waiting on mine)

Re: esun stainless and copper pla
well of course as always in 3d printing there will be a sacrifice of some sort but I would imagine there has to be a strength benefit of some sort over regular nylon. how much we end up seeing is still up in the air and what I want to test.
