That's pretty cool. At 35 soda cans per pound of aluminum, I'm going to have to start saving them for myself instead of putting them on the curb for recycling.

That part was about 4oz. Turns out aluminum is really light :) It's smaller than it looks in the picture, about 4" end-to-end.

The pump was able to make it up to 28" Hg. It took it a while to pull that last few inches, but that propane tank has something like a three gallon volume to it. I would think this should be close enough to a perfect vacuum to do degassing.
