Hello all,
I have been trying on and off for the past few months to finish my ED-209 and I cannot get the darn right leg to print! The worst part is the left leg finished just fine This leg by itself take 12-15 hours to print!
I am having problems with the support on the left and right side of his front toe (see picture). Every single time I try and print the leg, no matter what settings I have tried, when the little sheath around his front toe starts printing, it is very thin and starts to curl and then it hits the extruder and eventually gets knocked off. I even paused the print, took a heat gun and metal ruler and tried to flatten the pieces out but it didn't work.

would someone maybe give me some advice for this particular piece or maybe even do the supports for me and send me the .fff? I hate to ask but this little one legged ED-209 is killing me. I might have to just print a crutch for him to hobble around on or a little scooter or wheelchair

Printed a fan duct last night to try and get better airflow and even turned on my desk fan to try and stop the curling.

I forget what Rob has for lower support separation, but if it's not 1 layer, try 1. Also try adding some z-lift on retraction to get it the nozzle over any curling. Also, on overhung surfaces with a slight vertical curve like that, decrease the support grid size to, say, 2mm. Also, why is there a gap in the supports? Go in and manually add supports until everything that is overhung in that area is very well supported.

Was going to suggest more cooling but it sounds like you have looked into that....

I will say you seem to be going for overkill outside layers and infil wise on that print. I doubt very much it needs to be that robust

Have you tried playing with the orientation of the print... maybe position it so that it gets more of the fan? Have you tried playing with printing that section slower (ie different profile for those layers).

Two suggestions: Orient the print so that the sheath is directly facing the bed fan, and take your fan guard off.

outside layers, I had it set to 2 and the little sheath was printing with 0 infill, I upped it to 3 and it solved it being hollow.

I haven't messed with the orientation but those pieces are directly in the airflow, I will remove the guard on the fan next try.

Lower support separation, is set to 1. I did all custom supports, around the sheath the grid size is 2mm but I added a lot of those little columns!.
The gap in the supports (if I know where you are talking about) is where the sheath was supposed to start, you can see he little pieces of the sheath laying on the print bed in front of the foot. I haven't messed with profiles at all but that is a good idea.

I forgot all about z-lift! I had that enabled before but since I upgraded to v3.0 I lost all my settings, and by my settings I mean Rob's that I slightly tweaked

Well, I am about 4 hours into printing the leg today and I am not sure if it is just luck or the combination of z-lift and all the support settings I changed but it seems to be working! it has already printed about 10mm of the sheath part that I was having trouble with! I am not looking forwards to removing all the support on this thing, it took me hour on the last leg and it still doesn't look all that great But hey, it beats not having an Ed-209, am I right?

Hey guys, he is finally done. It took 14 hours to print his other leg out. A combination of Z-lift, increasing my retraction and changing a few support settings get him finished. he is now guarding my desk. Time to move my printer back into the hobby room!

I really wish someone would have split the leg into multiple pieces! I would if I had the software and know how. If split up correctly I bet it could print with no support at all.
