Y Axis Printing at an Angle

Post by jprochnow » Sun Jun 28, 2015 5:02 am

First off I sold a m2 to INSTA and it has come up that the Y axis is having some issues. During tall prints the part is shifting backwards. Not like a normal issue of the belt slipping(low belt tension). But if the wall is supposed to be straight up it prints at an angle of around 5 degrees all the way up. Insta has said the bed is level. Has anyone ever seen a problem like this before?

Insta if you could take some pictures to show what you are seeing maybe someone knows something. Feel free to include anything I forgot to explain.

ya jumped the gun a bit :)

This is NOT missing steps. It is a very consistent lean, also exhibiting a sticky Z axis.

I will get a picture of prints tomorrow ...

Yeah I know just wanted to get a thread going. More minds on the problem is always better.

I was having some slight stickiness on the Z-rod from build-up of grease. It tended to catch threads and wrap them into those grooves where they weren't visible. Cleaned out all the old grease with an old toothbrush (messy process) and the Z-axis moved a lot more smoothly. (Maybe something similar?)

That could be something to look into. Maybe even use a slight degreaser to make sure to get all the old lube out. As for the Y axis check the set screws on the motor gear. If those are loose that could shift slowly as its moving.

the leaning is something i have seen before. not with makergear but there was a big issue in the past with the leapfrog printers using s3d. there was a big thread on it maybe 8 mos ago on their forum but i dont remember what ever came of that. might be worth a search over there.

In this case it's the same GCode that the other 3 printers can do just fine.

I'll post pictures later today

That machine does have an older rambo in it. Could it be a voltage issue where the steps is wrong? I would try uploading the firmware to the rambo for the sake of ruling it out.

I'm eager to see the pictures.

you know i cant tell how big those prints are but could it be the z rods are not set straight up and down? if those are out but the bed is leveled it will pitch your model just like that. over the 8" travel though i think there could only be enough movement to be out 1/8" or so.
