right side spool holder

Post by jimc » Sun Aug 23, 2015 6:39 pm

does anyone have the stl for the newest right side spool holder design for the m2? i recently got a dual m2 and the spool holder is different than the one on the github site. the newer one bolts to the middle and lower hole.

Really? What does it look like? The old one didn't really fit well; I think it is just the same as the left side spool holder, only there aren't enough holes on the right side. I first mounted mine the way the instructions said, and found it was too low (I have my power strip underneath). I finally bolted the side of the spool holder to the middle hole in the frame; to keep it from twisting down from the weight of a spool of filament, I put another bolt through the bottom hole of the spool holder which just rests against the frame, and acts as a stop to keep the spool holder from turning. Kind of a hack job, but it works. It sounds like they finally designed one specifically for the right side.

Thanks! Now, I guess you'll have to beg the MakerGear guys to upload it to the github site.

I used to have my cables tied to the outside of the frame like that, because it was conveniently away from the Z stage, but I found it interferes with the spool on the right side. Possibly that flange on the side will keep the spool more away from the frame, but if not, I uploaded a cable harness guide channel to Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:940471); it puts the cables behind and in line with the frame. At least for me, that keeps it away from both the Z stage assembly and the right-side spool.
