The WAVES are back!?!

Post by JohnnyRobot » Tue May 27, 2014 3:58 am

Hey all,

I'm afraid I spoke too soon when I said my earlier wave issue was taken care of...

Image

It's to the point now where everything coming out of my M2 is garbage!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I've tried adjusting z height, using different filament, adjusting extruder multiplier, all with no luck... Very frustrating. I need to get my quadrotor back in the air! :(

What speed are you printing at?

75% of 4800 mm/min (3600 mm/min)

well I still don't get it. I've never seen anything like that happening due to bed leveling or z-height problems.

here's a thought- it looks like that wavy area is at a 45 degree angle on the bed, which would match the default infill angle in S3D. maybe that's not good. you could try either rotating the part before slicing, or change those angles (in the infill tab of S3D). try 60 and -120 for example, or 60, 180, 300. (actually I've never fiddled with them, so I'm just making educated guesses here about what they do.)

also it never hurts to slow things down and see what happens. have you limited acceleration? you need to do that in the start script with a line like:

M201 X900 Y900 Z200 E10000 ; limit acceleration

By how much have you been playing with the extruder multiplier? At some point, you will start getting individual threads that don't touch in the first layer. If you get to that point and STILL see waviness, I would be surprised. Turn it down to that point, and then start moving it back up. You can tune this easier by setting extrusion multiplier to 100%, then using the jog control override in the machine control panel during a print. Once you have a setting that looks good, you can set that back to 100%, then enter the setting under extrusion multiplier.

I've only adjusted between 100 and 90.

your still too close on layer 1 and or pushing out too much filament. a multiplier between 90-100 would be normal range but that is a fine tune. if the filament diameter is set too small then its going to be pushing out too mush as well. with that said though i still think your too close. what you have there seems better than before...i think. you need more space. i got that on every print when i first started until i got the z height all figured out and nailed. where its wavy i can see it in this pic that its making ridges. in your profile under g-code tab do you have an offset there? all should be zero. is your 1st layer printing height set at 100%? if all that is right then adjust the z stop bolt up by 1 flat on the bolt head and retry.

i feel like i've entered the m2 twilight zone on this one. i'm sure you guys must be right, but can you explain why it's only effecting one specific portion of the print and not any other? Or am I missing something in the pic?

I was wondering the same thing... At first I thought it may have been my bed, but I was getting the waves no matter what I did.

My g-code offsets are all zeros.

I'm running a test right now. First layer height was set to 80% I'm doing 100% first layer height. 90% extrusion Multiplier.

*Edit*
Waves still present

What temperatures are you guys using for ABS with the V3 nozzle?
