MotioneyesOS -webcam software for Raspberry Pi hardware

Post by willnewton » Sun Dec 20, 2015 3:40 am

I don't need Octoprint, as I have an old computer that is dedicated to the M2. I also have a Dropcam that I have been using for a long time just for monitoring prints, but never wanted to pay for the Dropcam recording service.

I did have a Raspberry Pi 2 that I wasn't sure what to do with. So I decided to make a Dropcam/webcam/IP cam with it. Since I am not a programmer, I looked to see what software was available and ran across a dedicated OS for Raspberry Pi called MotioneyesOS that offered a good set of features.

Here is a list of what I used and links where I found my items (no affiliations):

Hardware-
• Raspberry Pi 2 from Canakit.com -it came with the black case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XV ... ge_o09_s00
• Focus-able RaspPi camera from Waveshare via eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Raspberry-Pi-Ca ... 2011614570
• A printed mount for the case and camera -I designed a case mount because I wanted to mount this to my support pole. I already had the Raspi case, so I made a holder for it and the camera.

Software-
• MotioneyesOS -It's free! https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos/wiki

The result is a video camera that streams to local network and Internet, records video, takes still photos, make timelapse videos from the stills, works over wifi, and has lots of options via software configuration.

I'm pretty happy with it so far. I will be adding a thingiverse link later. I just want to live with for a bit to see If I want to make any changes.

Freestanding prototype. I had just enough white filament left to print the first part before changing the roll to yellow. That's what prototypes are for! ;)
